At The Kitchen Cupboard & Icebox (KCI), we take food seriously—and we’re looking for someone who feels the same. As Deli & CafĂ© Lead Hand, you’ll play a key role in our kitchen and customer experience. This isn’t just a helper position. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that food quality, presentation, prep, and service are consistently exceptional. You’ll set the pace, uphold safety and cleanliness standards, and take initiative to make sure every shift runs smoothly.
This role is ideal for someone with kitchen experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in high standards, and is eager to take ownership of their work. You’ll work closely with the Deli Manager and play a leadership role on the floor when they’re not present.

Key Responsibilities
In the Deli & Café:
• Lead day-to-day deli operations in collaboration with the Deli Manager
• Prepare and assemble menu items with efficiency, accuracy, and attention to presentation
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, and allergen awareness practices at all times
• Manage prep lists and ensure mise en place is completed and maintained throughout the shift
• Maintain clear, inviting food displays and ensure all items meet KCI quality standards
• Support and guide other team members on proper preparation techniques and customer service
• Ensure food handling equipment is used correctly and safely
• Handle catering and bulk orders with precision and professionalism
• Monitor inventory levels for deli ingredients and supplies; notify team of shortages proactively
In the Retail Shop (as needed):
• Provide exceptional customer service, both on the floor and at the counter
• Operate the POS system and assist with in-store and online order fulfillment
• Restock and maintain clean, attractive product displays
• Stay informed about KCI products, promotions, and loyalty programs to support customer needs

Qualifications & Attributes
• Demonstrated experience in food prep, deli, or kitchen environments
• Safe Food Handling Certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Strong understanding of food safety, cross-contamination, and storage procedures
• Confident using knives, slicers, ovens, and other kitchen equipment
• Ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
• High attention to detail, with a commitment to quality and consistency
• Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to take ownership of tasks and ensure high standards are maintained
